The merciful shall find mercy, and the pure in heart shall see God. Every impure thought defiles the soul, impairs the moral sense, and tends to obliterate the impressions of the Holy Spirit. It dims the spiritual vision, so that men cannot behold God. The Lord may and does forgive the repenting sinner; but though forgiven, the soul is marred. All impurity of speech or of thought must be shunned by him who would have clear discernment of spiritual truth. E.G. White, The Desire of Ages, p. 302
Yang menaruh kasihan akan beroleh kasihan, dan yang suci hatinya akan melihat Allah. Setiap pikiran yang kotor menajiskan jiwa, merusakkan perasaan, akhlak dan membuangkan pengaruh Roh Kudus. Hal itu menudungi pandangan kerohanian, agar manusia tidak dapat memandang Allah. Tuhan mengampuni orang berdosa yang bertobat; tetapi walaupun telah diampuni jiwa itu telah berbekas. Semua percakapan dan pikiran yang tidak pantas harus dihindarkan oleh orang yang mau memperhatikan dengan jelas kebenaran rohani.
